Help Desk: How to install Skins for reFX Vanguard 2
This guide will walk you through the quick process of the installation of the MIMIC-2 UI Skins for the reFX Vanguard 2 synthesizer.
Please make you sure, you`re using the latest version. To use the UI Skins, Vanguard 2 version 2.1.10 or later is required!
1 Before installing the presets and UI skin files, it`s necessary to know the library folder of Vanguard 2. Which depends on what path you allocated during the installation of Vanguard 2 itself.
The best and easiest way to find the library folder is simply by checking the “Settings”-tab of the Refx Cloud App, as shown in the example screenshot.
As you can see, my installation the path is:
“E:\reFX\VANGUARD library\”
You need to go to this specific folder on your hard drive.
2 To Install the UI skin files, you need to copy all 10 skin folders (in the “Vanguard 2 Skins” folder of the MIMIC-2 package) into the “Skins” subfolder of the Vanguard library folder.
After this, your „Skins“ folder should look exactly like the example screenshot.
The process and folder structure will very likely be identical on macOS.
3 You may need to reload Vanguard 2 in your DAW for the UI skins to be visible in the browsers.
To access the UI skins, just click on your user icon in the top right to open the menu. The icon usually displays 2 letters matching your registered name or your avatar (in case you uploaded one via the reFX website).
And now click on “Skin browser”.
4 The following popup displays all installed UI skins. From there you just need to click on the
UI skin you like to load/select.
The preview thumbnails will be generated automatically by Vanguard 2 itself, once you have clicked on each skin. So don`t worry if there are no preview thumbnails after the installation.
In most cases our products (e.g. soundsets and presets packs) contain a detailed installation guide, if the presets based on the synthesizer, need to be placed in specific folders and of course, which version of the particular synthesizer is required to use the soundset files. Otherwise, the developer`s synthesizer manual always shows how its preset handling works and can be used.
